About Action Against Hunger

 

Action Against Hunger is an international, non-governmental, non-religious, non-profit making organisation with programmes in 43 countries worldwide, providing emergency relief in situations of war, conflict and natural disasters, as well as longer-term assistance to people in distress – particularly women and children.

For over 25 years, Action Against Hunger has been at the forefront of the fight against hunger and malnutrition worldwide. Our teams do their utmost day after day to ensure that people are given access to the most basic of human rights – the right to food.

 

Action Against Hunger’s activities include the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of malnutrition, as well as food security, water and sanitation and basic health programmes. In emergency situations, Action Against Hunger addresses hunger and malnutrition by providing food, water, medicine and other essential items. In the long-term, the organisation helps people and communities to regain their autonomy and self-sufficiency.

The organisation was created in 1979 and has since developed within the framework of an international network (ACFIN) with headquarters in France, Spain, Canada, the UK and the US. In carrying out our activities, all members adhere to a charter of principles that form the foundation of our humanitarian commitment: independence, impartiality, non-discrimination, free and direct access to victims, professionalism and transparency.

Action Against Hunger UK is a registered charity (no. 1047501) and a signatory of the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and Non-Governmental Organisations in Disaster Relief.
